Call to Artists

Original Art for New Town Hall

Deadline to submit has closed. Not accepting more submissions at this time.

Artist toolsThe Town of Jupiter Art Committee issued a Call to Artists for two-dimensional works of original art to purchase and hang within the public spaces of the new Jupiter Town Hall. The new Town Hall will be the epicenter of our area, and the art should reflect Jupiter’s unique coastal, family-oriented, small-town feel. From its signature ocean color to its long history of being the keystone for waterway travel, trade and recreation, the Town of Jupiter reached out to artists for works that will give residents and visitors an authentic, visual sense of what makes the Town of Jupiter Uniquely Jupiter. The Town is only selecting art from local artists residing in Palm Beach County.

ART SELECTION PANEL

Art will be selected by a selection panel including members of the Town of Jupiter Art Committee and the Town staff liaison, with the Town Council reserving the right to approve the final selections. The six-member selection panel will view each work of art and fill out the Jury Score Tally Sheet.

 Artwork Selection Criteria

Up to three artworks per artist will be selected at the sole discretion of the selection panel based on the following criteria:

  • Appropriateness – How well the work reflects the Town of Jupiter’s unique coastal, family-oriented, small-town feel (20 points)
  • Appeal – Overall visual impact (10 points)
  • Quality – Artistic merit and craftmanship (10 points)

There is a maximum 40 available points from each of the six selection panel members, so each work of art can earn up to 240 total points.

Artwork Selection Scoring

  1. Administrative Review: Complete applications will be provided to Town staff for evaluation based on artwork selection criteria and be assigned either a pass or fail rating. Those applications that receive a pass rating will then be scored and ranked by the six-member selection panel.
  2. Ranking: The six-member selection panel (jury) will view each work of art, fill out the Jury Score Tally Sheet, and hand their completed sheet to the record keeper (staff liaison). The artwork will be scored up to 20 points for Appropriateness—how well it reflects the Town’s image and its coastal, family-oriented small-town feel; up to 10 points for Appeal—what the artwork’s overall visual impact is; and up to 10 points for Quality—for the artwork’s merit and artisanship. There is a maximum 40 available points from each of the six selection panel members, so each work of art can earn up to 240 total points. The record keeper will record the name of the work of art, stipend category and score. Works of art will be ranked by the stipend category and the highest score. Should the ranking result in a tie, then the Selection Panel shall select the artist with the most first-place votes; if there is still a tie, then the artist with the most second-place votes, etc. until the selection list of art is finalized.

Starting with the highest score, up to three times the required number of works of art will move on for final Town Council selection and approval (up to 27 works in the $2,000 category, up to 24 works in the $3,000 category and up to three works in the $4,000 category).
