Florida Department of Transportation SealThe Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will replace the U.S. 1 Bridge over the Loxahatchee River/Intracoastal Waterway in the Town of Jupiter.

Project At-A-Glance

In preparation for the replacement of the U.S. 1 Bridge, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is performing intersection improvements along the planned detour route once the bridge is closed. These improvements include the intersection of Alternate A1A and Old Dixie Highway.

The replacement bridge will consist of two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction, 8-foot sidewalks and 7-foot bike lanes in both directions. Pedestrians will be separated from traffic with permanent concrete barriers. The new bridge will be a twin double-leaf drawbridge with up to 42 feet of vertical clearance and a navigable channel width of 125 feet. It will also feature a concrete bridge deck to reduce traffic noise, a new tender house and pedestrian overlooks.

In preparation for a 20-month bridge closure and detour, temporary intersection improvements that consist of additional turn lanes will occur at: U.S. 1 at Indiantown Road, Alternate A1A and Indiantown Road and U.S. 1 and Alternate A1A/Beach Road. Permanent intersection improvements also will occur at Alternate A1A and Old Dixie Highway. Intelligent Transportation System devices will be installed to improve traffic flow.
