Digital Forensics

About the Digital Forensics Unit

The Digital Forensics Unit uses various techniques and tools to scientifically identify, collect, analyze and preserve digital information. This digital information is typically retrieved from computer hard drives or other storage media, which may have been previously hidden or deleted.

Due to the wide-reaching digital evidence that can be gathered by investigating a computer system, digital forensics can be used as part of a vast range of investigations including those that involve murder, sex offenses, terrorism, fraud, identity theft, drug dealing, blackmail and many other serious activities.

The unit cooperates with other jurisdictions to share resources and information, and is an active participant in the Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force.
