Community Development Block Grant Program
CDBG
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Since 1974, the CDBG program has been one of the longest continuously run programs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The CDBG program provides annual grants on a formula basis to State and local government.
The Town of Jupiter has participated in the CDBG Program since 2012. In recent years, CDBG funds have been used to renovate Officer Bruce St. Laurent Park in Pine Gardens South, athletic scholarships through the JTAA, street safety, and for upgrades to the water distribution and drainage systems in the Charter neighborhoods. In the past 2 years, CDBG funds are utilized to address drainage issues in Pine Gardens North and to build a playground in Eastview Manor, among other things.
The Town receives approximately $270,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds annually. Public meetings are held every year to obtain resident input on community development needs, current CDBG projects, and potential CDBG projects and programs. These public meetings also provide information on the Fair Housing Act, including where to file complaints and a discussion of protected classes and prohibitive Fair Housing practices.
Residents are encouraged to learn more about the Town's CDBG program. You do not have to attend a meeting in order to provide feedback or ask questions. Please email Satu Oksanen, Neighborhood Services Manager, or call at 561-741-2524 if you have any questions or comments about the program.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) public meetings are held to gather public input and discuss the use of CDBG funds. Entitlement communities are required to hold the meetings at least twice a year (per 24 CFR 570.431).
